  7. Thank you for your interest in CHECKERMANIA.  CHECKERMANIA is a
  8. magical twist on the old game of checkers.  The introduction of magic
  9. spells has transformed it into a very exciting and more challenging
  10. game.  In addition to magic, a "Return the Flag" variation was added
  11. to eliminate any chance of stalemate.  Two players can play against
  12. each other or you can match your wits against the computer.   It's
  13. great fun for all ages.

  15. This program is a demonstration version of CHECKERMANIA.  Try it out
  16. and if you like it you can order the fully functional version directly
  17. from Majestic Software for only $12.  Just use the on-line order form
  18. by clicking the "How To Order..." button in CHECKERMANIA's opening
  19. window.  This will provide you all the instructions needed to order.

  21. This demonstration version can be freely copied; however, under no
  22. circumstances must it be sold or bundled with other software sold for
  23. profit.

  25. Some of CHECKERMANIA's features have been disabled in this
  26. demonstration version; but enough have been left in to allow you to
  27. see if you really like it.  CHECKERMANIA's on-line help explains all
  28. the features of the full working version (so you can see what you're
  29. missing!).  Also, the "Custom Setup" and "Preferences" windows have
  30. Balloon Help.

  33. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  34.  
  35. System 6.0.7 or later. (System 7 recommended, of course)
  36.  
  37. 1.2 MBytes RAM in color and 600K in B&W (These are in addition to your
  38. system software requirements).
  39.  
  40. Only 1-, 2-, 4-, and 8-bit Monitor Settings are permitted.  16- and
  41. 24-bit modes are not yet supported.

  43. Due to the amount of sound and graphics, it is highly recommended that
  44. you execute CHECKERMANIA from your hard disk.

  47. ADJUSTING MEMORY REQUIREMENTS
  48.  
  49. Using Finder's "Get Info" command, you can change the amount of memory
  50. that is allocated to CHECKERMANIA.  When running in color, you must
  51. set the Minimum size to 1200K.  If you are running on a machine with
  52. 1-bit video (Mac Plus, etc.) you can set the Minimum size as low as
  53. 600K.

  56. TROUBLESHOOTING
  57.  
  58. For those who have 040 based machines or accelerators, try turning the
  59. 040's cache OFF if you are having problems.
  60.  
  61. Thorough testing with Virtual Memory was not performed.  If you are
  62. encountering a problem, you may try turning the Virtual Memory feature
  63. OFF using the Memory Control Panel.

  65. If you are still having problems you should increase the Minimum
  66. Application size of CHECKERMANIA using the Get Info window from
  67. Finder.

  69. Although there are no known conflicts with any INITs, if you are still
  70. having a problem you might try turning off some INITs.
